Lisa Matson’s talent, drive, passion and dedication to her art are exceptional.
From the age of 10, Lisa’s world revolved around visual mediums; with an avid interest in art, beauty, photography, fashion, movies and magazines. Before long she was combining all her loves and coercing friends and family into makeovers and backyard fashion shoots. Fast forward 40+ years and nothing much has changed except her skill, clients and work locations have broadened quite considerably during her 30 years as a professional.
Her client list in New Zealand is as impressive as it comes. Over her career, Lisa has worked with/for many stellar brands including L’Oréal Paris, Lancôme, Shiseido, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Reebok, Crocs, Ford, Holden, Sunsilk, TRESemmé, Qantas, Casio, Tip Top, Telecom, BNZ, All Blacks, Silver Ferns and Feltex plus many, many more.
She has also made over a plethora of well-known NZ personalities from the world of television, film, fashion, music, sports and politics. Her professionalism. perfectionism, sense of humour and care have garnered her long-standing relationships with Hilary Barry, Toni Street, Lorraine Downes, and Renee Wright (to name a few); and it has allowed her to get up close and personal with a myriad of international celebrities - her most memorable being Quentin Tarantino, Usher, Gabriel Macht (Suits)and Eva Longoria.
Lisa is a highly skilled and creative professional who has made a name for herself in the beauty and fashion industry. She has a wealth of experience in makeup design, creative direction, beauty photography, styling, team management and recruitment. Lisa's passion for her work is evident in her extensive portfolio of lookbooks, advertising campaigns, beauty events, and fashion shows. She has worked with almost all of New Zealand's most reputable and well-known beauty and fashion houses throughout her career. In 2023, Lisa's talent was in high demand, as she designed 18 makeup looks and led 19 shows just for NZ Fashion Week alone, making it her busiest year for makeup design.
Lisa’s standing in the industry, combined with her experience and knowledge, has also made her a media favourite over the years. Lisa's work and expert advice can often be seen in leading NZ magazine publications, newspapers, blogs and beauty sites. Public speaking and education (for trainees to advanced makeup artists) are other ways Lisa likes to pass on her knowledge/expertise.
In recognition of Lisa's aforementioned skills, cosmetic powerhouse L’Oréal Paris signed her to a makeup contract in 2009 with the title of L’Oréal Paris NZ Makeup Director, a role she loyally and happily upheld for 10 years, until it was disestablished.
Lisa is a multi-talented professional and divides her time between hair and makeup work, portrait/beauty photography and personal styling (when available) all of which she loves, and if she can do all three at one time...even better! Currently, Lisa has taken up a contract with Theresa Gattung's new business Compatico, as their head portrait photographer, makeup artist and stylist.
